Like mentioned before, it is not easy, to find the right TAOS version from all the hundreds of images found on the ascend server.
This text-file is the last version, internally published from Ascend not for the public.

To identify your current software load
======================================
- Obtain access to your MAX unit and make sure you are in "Full Access".
- Make sure the terminal server is enabled under:
Ethernet->Mod Config->Tserv Options->TS Enabled=Yes.
- In the System menu, select Sys Diag, followed by Term Serv.
- Under Terminal Server mode, the command "show revision" (ver 5.0 and up)
will show you the correct file name you need to download.
example:
ascend% show revision
ascend% system revision: tik.m40 6.0.0
- If the identical filename cannot be found in the ftp site, refer to the feature map below to identify the binary file that you need.
File name convention
====================
- For software 4.6Cp22 and above, filenames are arranged in the format shown below:
<file type><interface><feature codes>.<platform extension>
example:
rtbik.m40
<r> - restricted load (* see version 6.0.0 note below)
<tb> - support for T1 and BRI interface
<ik> - support for OSPF and 56k modem
<m40>- binary load for the MAX 4000 series platform

* For users upgrading to version 6.0.0 or above

- Some MAX units below version 6.0.0 might need to upgrade incrementally.
- Some builds contain a restricted load and an extended load.
- Upload the restricted load first, reset, then upload the extended load.
- For more information, refer to Upgrade-Instructions.txt.
- All subsequent upgrades from version 6.0.0 or above only require an extended load without the need of a restricted load.

For us in Germany this means, the most simple Version for a MAX 4000 is "fei.m40", which has E1 and IP only, nothing else. (and for the US it is fti.m40)
